Neurology & PNF

What is PNF?

Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) is an established analysis and treatment concept in physiotherapy that aims to specifically promote muscle strength, coordination, and mobility. Targeted stimulation of muscles, tendons, and joints improves the interaction between the nervous system and the muscles. The goal is to activate existing resources and perform movements in a more economical and controlled manner. PNF works with guided, spiral, and diagonal movement patterns that correspond to the natural movements of the body in everyday life and sports.

The PNF concept was originally developed in neurological rehabilitation, where it is still widely used today.

At the same time, PNF has also proven itself in sports physiotherapy to increase performance, improve movement quality, and safely return to sporting activities after an accident or injury.

PNF at Physiotherapy Proalp Zurich Oerlikon

At my physiotherapy practice in Oerlikon, I use PNF to make movement sequences more efficient, powerful, and functional. The treatment is tailored to your individual symptoms, goals, and resilience and is suitable for both patients with neurological impairments and people who are physically active.

  • PNF is particularly suitable for:

  • Neurological disorders and restricted movement

  • Coordination and strength deficits after an accident or surgery

  • Improving athletic performance in sports physiotherapy

  • Limited mobility and unstable movement patterns

  • Rehabilitation in everyday life and in sports

I combine PNF with manual therapy, FDM, or trigger point treatment as needed to achieve holistic and lasting therapeutic success.
